La Cava de Marcelo - Cheese Cellar

La Cava de Marcelo is a dairy farm, artesanal cheesemaker and restaurant located near Ojos Negros, just 26 miles east of Ensenada.

Follow the signs for "Cava de Queso" from Route 3 at Km 43 between Ensenada and San Felipe.  It is about a 40 minute drive from Ensenada, most of the way is paved, with the last couple of miles to the ranch, unpaved.  Be aware that the weather in the valley is usually very different than in Ensenada, in summer it is much warmer, and in winter can be cold with occasional snow.

Hours: Open Thursdays - Sundays from 1pm to 6pm.  Closed Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  Open on holidays, according to the staff.

Time: We suggest you allow at least 1 1/2 hours, longer if you plan to dine in the open restaurant.

Cost: Free to visit and take the tour, a sample of cheese served in the cellar with wine and bread was $10 USD/$120 MXN, subject to change.  Restaurant prices vary, see the menu in the gallery, subject to change.
